Welcome to STMusic!

Our goal is not to become another TorrentBytes or EliteTorrents (R.I.P). The goal is to provide the absolutely latest stuff. Therefore, only specially authorised users have permission to upload torrents. If you have access to 0-day stuff do not hesitate to contact us!

This is a private tracker, and you have to register before you can get full access to the site. Before you do anything here at STMusic we suggest you read the rules! There are only a few rules to abide by, but we do enforce them!

Before you go any further you should read the STMusic user agreement.

Where does the donated money go?

STMusic.org costs money to run! Currently our costs are $300, donating helps us to meet these costs.

Who runs the site?

STMusic.org is run by a team of staff, you can find a list of them over at the Staff page.

Be sure to say thanks every now and then!

Can I have an invitation to Supertorrents?

No. We do not give out invitations to SuperTorrents to anyone who asks. PMing members for an invitation may result in a warning on your account (or even loss of the account). Please don't do it! Asking on IRC is also not encouraged.

To get an account you need to know someone who is already a member, and who has a spare invitation to give you.

I need help with my Supertorrents account!

SuperTorrents and STMusic are two completely different sites. Unfortunately we cannot help you with issues related to the other site, such as lost passwords or disabled accounts. What we suggest in this instance is to join the appropriate IRC channel...

All of the channels are located on the same network. You can also use the java chat or using a client like mIRC it is irc://irc.p2pirc.org

SuperTorrents

The channel is #supertorrents.
To join this type /join #supertorrents

...however if the issue is related to STMusic...

STMusic

The channel is #stmusic.
To join this type /join #stmusic

Support Channel (Both Sites)

The support channel for both SuperTorrents and STMusic is located at #stsupport. To join this type /join #stsupport.

Please note the Support channel is for genuine support requests. Whilst we do not mind you idleing in the main site channels, you will be kicked/kick-banned if you persistantly idle in #stsupport.

I registered an account but did not receive the confirmation e-mail!

You don't need the confirmation e-mail to confirm your account, the invite code does that. Just login to begin being part of STMusic.

I've lost my user name or password! Can you send it to me?

Please use this form to have the login details mailed back to you. It may not work as our emails get blocked sometimes (check your Spam folder if you have one).

Please use chat to contact a Moderator who will be able to change your password for you (Make sure you have java installed if you need to use the chat).

Can you rename/delete my account?

We can't rename accounts. Please create a new one if it really matters to you. Use this form to delete your present account and then create a new one. As signups are closed right now, so you'll need to have an invite code. Please note if you are caught with more then one account you risk having both banned, so do be quick.

And if for some reason you want to leave us :( then you can do it yourself by using this form.

How do I add an avatar to my profile?

First, find an image that you like, and that is within the rules. Then you will have to find a place to host it, such as our own BitBucket. (Other popular choices are Photobucket, Upload-It! or ImageShack). All that is left to do is copy the URL you were given when uploading it to the avatar field in your profile.

Alternatively, if you plan to use the forums (and we suggest you do!) simply set your avatar in the forum and it will also set it for the site in general.

Please do not make a post just to test your avatar on the forums. If everything worked ok, you should see your avatar in your details page by selecting your name at the top left.

So, what's a share ratio and how do I find out mine?

Look at the user bar:

User Info Bar

Alternatively, if your user class is n00b or User then you will need to check your profile. So what exactly is a Share Ratio? The Share Ratio works by looking at the total amount you've downloaded compared with the total amount you've uploaded (how much you've leeched and how much you've seeded back).

Example:
Uploaded 250mb Downloaded 500mb (250mb divided by 500mb) is equal to a Share Ratio of 0.5

What this essentially means is you have only shared back half (0.5) of the amount you have downloaded, this isn't good. :( We ask users to maintain a ratio of 1.0+ or as close to 1.0 as possible, this means everyone's happy in a fun sharing world!

Remember that the ratio you see on the user bar or in your profile is for the total amount of data you have downloaded and uploaded. Each torrent you have open will have different share ratio, we then add them all up to give you a total, because we're nice like that.

Example:
  • Torrent 1: Downloaded 250mb, Uploaded 150mb Share Ratio: 0.6
  • Torrent 2: Downloaded 200mb, Uploaded 100mb Share Ratio: 0.5
  • Torrent 3: Downloaded 350mb, Uploaded 350mb Share Ratio 1.0

So overall we have a total of 800mb Downloaded and 600mb Uploaded, giving a Share Ratio of 0.75 (which is below our requirements), so the key is to share! Just give back what you take! It's so simple.

You may see two symbols instead of a number:
  • “Inf.", which is short for Infinity, and means that you are sharing back without having downloaded anything! You may wonder how this could happen… surely you have to download something to share it; not necessarily!

Sometimes when you stop a torrent and then resume (e.g. when you shutdown your computer at night and start again in the morning), the torrent program forgets that you have already started that torrent, and assumes that you've downloaded nothing but continue to share, meaning an infinite ratio! Note: please don't worry about your upload/download amounts not updating: clients do this for you during your transfer and before you exit.
  • "---" This simply means you haven't downloaded or uploaded anything (your client might not have updated us just yet).

What Is The Seeding Bonus & How Does It Work?

Here at STMusic, we give you a bonus added to your overall share ratio depending on how long and fast you seed. This is part of an effort to (1) help you keep a good ratio and (2) keep torrents seeded longer.

Upload Speed          Bonus MB every 15m      Bonus Over 72 Hours

Not Uploading (but open for seeding)   .5MB   144MB's

    Lower then 10k/s   1MB   288MB's

    Between 10k/s & 20k/s   2MB   576MB's

    Higher then 20k/s   4MB   1.1GB's

SeedBonus works on your overall upload rate. For example, if you're seeding 2 torrents, one at 10k/s and the other at 5k/s, that makes 15k/s total and you earn 2MB every 15 minutes.

It does not matter how many torrents you run, it simply takes your total upload speed and gives you a bonus every 15 minutes. 4 torrents doesn't mean you get 4 bonuses every 15 minutes.

Why is my IP displayed on my details page?!

We keep the last IP that you used to browse the site in your information to help us spot security issues. Don't worry though, only Moderators, Admins and SysOps can see your IP, along with yourself. Regular users don't have access to your personal information.

    Why can't I login/reach the site?

This problem sometimes happens in Internet Explorer. To solve it, you need to delete any STMusic cookies (found in C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Cookies in Windows XP). Alternatively you can delete all cookies by going into Internet Options and looking in the General tab for the 'Delete Cookies' button. You should then be able to login.

The other reason you may not be able to log in is because you are banned! If you really think you were banned unfairly, come along to IRC and explain your case.

The site blocks addresses listed in the PeerGuardian, so if PeerGuardian is blocking you, you should complain to them yourself. We have no control over who they ban so we cannot help you, sorry.

It's also possible that your account has been automatically deleted for inactivity (this happens when you don't login once in 28 days).

Why am I 'Not Connectable' and why does it matter?

STMusic has determined that you are firewalled or NATed. This doesn't mean that you can't download and upload data, but it does mean that you won't reach the best possible speeds and will have a hard time sharing back.

Being unconnectable means that you can initiate connections to others, but they can't initiate connections to you. Also if 2 users are unconnectable, they can't connect no matter what. This slows things down for everyone.

So there are 7 people in total: 3 unconnectables and 4 connectables. The connectable people can connect to 6 other people whilst the unconnectable people can only connect to 4 others, because they cannot communicate between each other. Now imagine in a big torrent how many people you could miss out on connecting to!

So what can you do? You need to configure your router and/or firewall to open ports for your torrent client. You will find lots of information on the subject at PortForward.com.

Also note that your connectable listing on the site may malfunction at times. If you are looking in your profile, it displays your connectable status depending on if you have any active torrents at that time. If you know for a fact that you're connectable, then it may just be a site error.

If you need further help getting connectable, please make use of the forums.

What are the different user classes?

n00b   The default class of all new members.
User   Regular user. Can use basic site functions.
Power User   Can view NFO files in torrent details page.
Star   Has donated money to STMusic. True Stars!
VIP   We at STMusic give this class to those who have really contributed to our community, please respect them! They have the same privileges as a Power User. Do not ask for VIP or you will never be one.
(Custom Title)   You may see people with custom titles, they are given at our discretion, please don't beg for one though.
Uploader   These people bring you the files so please be nice and say thanks once in a while, without them there'd be nothing to download!
Moderator   These lovely people help to keep the forums and torrent comments in check, whilst also having the ability to disable accounts.
Administrator   These guys can do everything all of the other classes can do are responsible for the running of the community and its various sections.
SysOp   Eric and Szentigrade. These guys are the site owners and have ultimate responsibility for the running of things.

So how do I get promoted?

User   Must have been a member for at least 2 weeks and downloaded over 5GB's while maintaining a ratio over .500. This promotion is automatic. Note: If your ratio is under .500 by the time you've downloaded over 5GB's your account will be disabled.
Power User   Must have been be a member for at least 4 weeks, have uploaded at least 25GB, downloaded at least 5GB and have a ratio at or above 1.05.
The promotion is automatic when these conditions are met. Note that you will be automatically demoted from this status if your ratio drops below 1.05 at any time.
Star   Just donate and you should be credited automatically. If this isn't the case please send Ersan - and only Ersan - the details.
VIP   Assigned by Moderators, Admins and SysOps at their discretion to users they feel contribute something special to the STMusic community (Don't ask for VIP, you'll get it if you deserve it).
(Custom Title)   Again this is a privilege to be deployed at our discretion; this service is immediately available to Donors and VIPs. If you're a regular around STMusic and well known by the staff, don't hesitate to ask for a custom title.
Uploader   Appointed by Admins/SysOps (see the 'Uploading' section for conditions).
Moderator   We appoint people whom we see contributing to the community in IRC and the forums, please don't ask, we'll come to you.

Can I invite someone I live with?

NO! We can not stress this enough. Only one account per IP address (which each household shares between computers) is allowed on STmusic. The staff makes multiple checks on this weekly and you WILL be caught. When you are, all your accounts will be disabled INCLUDING the one with the LOWEST ratio. So you're better off not taking any chances.

It actually makes more sense to share one account if you think about it. Each household has a limited download and upload speed; if you're trying to maintain ratios for multiple accounts it becomes much more difficult than it would if you only had one account. So instead, combine all your downloading and uploading into one account and avoid the fuss.

Can I login from different computers (Multiple IPs)

Yes, it's not a problem. You can browse and download form different locations now. You are identified by your passkey which is coded into the .torrent file you download. Note that we don't allow multiple users to share accounts so don't login with too many different IPs or we'll be onto you! However, users living together are strongly encouraged to use the same account to avoid being banned.

    Hey, I can't Log in!

If you are having difficulties logging in, and you keep being redirected to the login page, it is because there is a fault with your cookies. This is often because you have some really old ones hanging about that haven't been deleted. You can normally fix this by going to our Cookie Fixing page (it will redirect you to login after it has done). If you still can't login afterwards, try deleting your cookies manually from your browser.

Do I need to inform staff of a seedbox (dedicated server)?

Yes! If you're using a seedbox, or have a very fast homeline connection which you download/seed from then please PM a moderator or come to IRC to speak with one.

  • Stats - Top

How does NAT/ICS change the picture?

If you use ICS (Internet Connection Sharing), you should run the torrent client from the computer that connects directly to the internet (it's the ICS gateway). Clients running on the other computers will be unconnectable (being unconnectable was explained here) unless you specify the appropriate services in your ICS configuration (a good explanation of how to do this for Windows XP can be found here).

In the NAT (Network Address Translation) case you should configure different ranges for clients on different computers and create appropriate NAT rules in the router. (Details vary widely from router to router and are outside the scope of this FAQ. Check your router documentation and/or post on the Support Forum.)

May I use any bittorrent client?

Not really! The tracker should update stats correctly for all clients. However, we still recommend that you use one of the following clients:

    utorrent <-- strongly recommended
    Azureus,
    BitTorrent,
    Bittornado.

NOTE: Bitcomet has been BANNED. You will be unable to use this client here.

NOTE: Be sure to disable DHT and Peer Exchange in your torrent client as those features are used on public trackers unlike ST. By not turning these features off, you are sending data to users NOT on this site and it does NOT get counted towards your stats. You're hurting your ratio as well as the download speeds of other by keeping these options on.

Why is a torrent I'm leeching/seeding listed several times in my profile?

If for some reason (e.g. pc crash, frozen client) your client exits improperly and you restart it, it will have a new peer_id, so it will show as a new torrent. The old one will go away in a few minutes, don't worry. This can also sometimes occur when you've finished or exited a torrent, but this usually happens with dodgy clients.

You can use the 'flush torrents' link at the top of your profile (click your name at top left) to flush torrents (doesn't always work though!). If flushing your torrents doesn't work, you will just have to wait a while until the system clears it eventually. Do not contact staff about this problem, we can't do anymore then you can.

    Why aren't my stats updating?

    • You're using a dodgy client, please use a recommended client.
    • The server might be overloaded or temporarily down, don't hammer it with manual announces, just wait until its back up and your stats will update correctly.

    Uploading - Top

Why can't I upload torrents in the main section/archive?

STMusic requires certain conditions for you to do so, please read below.

How can I upload to the SCENE section of the site?

Please note this is for the SCENE section of the site, not user uploads, anyone can upload there. If you don't know what scene files are, please don't pm Ersan, thank you.

You must have access to 0sec mp3s/MDVDR/MVID with good routing to .us (for uploading new music). Music must be scene-release only. We cannot stress that enough; we don't want home-ripped stuff, that goes in User Uploads.

If you have read the above and feel that you still qualify to upload to our servers, please contact Ersan with the following information.

    • Upload Speed
    • Scene Access (Location/Speed/Size)
    • Genre of music files available

How can I upload to the USER section of the site?

This is the section that the vast majority of the users are able to upload to, provided that the upload meets certain rules.

For help on how to upload, visit the tutorial section of the forums.

Can I upload your torrents to other trackers?

Hell No. Feel free to seed them on other trackers but you do not have permission to upload them elsewhere. Anyone caught doing so will be warned/banned.

Im seeding, but my upload stays really slow!

The most common cause of this is because there are vitually no leechers on a torrent. If there are dozens of seeds and a handful of leechers, or worse 0 leechers, you will never upload that much as there are all the other seeders to download from, and people only have a limited ammount of bandwidth.

    Is pornography allowed?

No, pornography in any form is strictly prohibited from SuperTorrents and STMusic. Any users caught uploading pornography will be warned and then banned on a 2nd offense. Any users caught uploading child pornography will be reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s CyberTipline.

    Downloading - Top

That torrent disappeared from the site!

    Torrents don't just disappear!

The torrent may have been deleted; the reason can vary. It might have been dead (0 seeds, 0 leechers). Dead torrents are deleted automatically after 3 days of no activity.

The file may be nuked, meaning that the file was deemed to be 'wrong' in some way and not worth downloading.

Or, the uploader may have made a mistake, in which case a replacement will most likely be coming. Please do not contact staff regarding missing torrents, we will not do anything about it.

I'm not sure how to use this file type...

Guys, these are just mp3s! Seriously... if you have a problem playing an mp3, please don't contact us as we might get a big laugh about it.

The only other files you need to know about are:

    • .m3uPlaylist

This simply a playlist file, nearly every audio player should support these and when you double click them, it will queue up all of the tracks from that particular release in your playlist.

    • .cue Nero

If a cd is mixed then it will often come as a one large mp3 with a .cue file. This often happens with electronic music like trance and house. The reason for this is that if you split these mp3s up and play them back, you get gaps in the playback which sounds crap if it's a mixed cd. You can use the .cue to burn the mp3 perfectly with a program like Nero, or you can even get plugins for your music player that allows you to you drop a .cue onto your playlist and play it gapless (while alllowing you to skip, yay!)

Note: one for Winamp can be found here.

You can also split the mp3 into separate tracks if you want using a program such as CUE Splitter. Please note that you need to keep the original mp3 to continue seeding!

    • .nfo Damn NFO Viewer

.nfo files are information files. How clever. They basically contain information about the files you've downloaded. It should contain a tracklist and other information such as audio quality, source etc. You can open them with Wordpad or even Notepad (right click and choose open with...) but we recommend using DAMN NFO Viewer (Mini version here).

    • .sfv Quick SFV

.sfv files are like a checklist - they check that the files you just downloaded are authentic (like they originally were when the first person created them). This ensures that you don't get any fake crap. Get a program like Quick SFV to use them.

How do I resume a broken download or reseed something?

Most clients nowadays will auto-resume for you. Re-seeding something simply involves opening the .torrent file from the site again and most clients will find the files for you and begin seeding. If your client doesn't find it for you, simply find the option that allows you to browse for where the files are.

In fact, most clients store the .torrent file for you now! All you have to do is click a start/stop button. Simple!

What are these "a piece has failed an hash check" messages?

Sometimes you receive some data that's bad - it doesn't meet what the torrent expects it to be. As long as this isn't happening a lot, you have no reason to worry; most torrents have a few kb of bad data sent between downloaders.

Some clients have an (advanced) option/preference to 'kick/ban clients that send you bad data' or similar. You should turn this on if its available, as this will stop you from connecting to people that are constantly sending you bad data.

The torrent is supposed to be 100MB. How come I downloaded 120MB?

This is related to the previous question; when data fails a hash check, you have to re-download it. So technically you can download more data than the total file size should be.

Why do I get a "rejected by tracker - Port xxxx is blacklisted" error?

Your client is reporting to the tracker that it uses one of the default bittorrent ports (6881-6889) or any other common p2p port for incoming connections.

STMusic does not allow clients to use ports commonly associated other p2p programs. Why? Well, ISPs tend to 'throttle' these ports (limit speeds), so it's for your own good (and the good of the community :)

    The blocked ports list:

    Direct Connect
    411 - 413
    Kazaa
    1214
    eDonkey
    4662
    Gnutella
    6346 - 6347
    BitTorrent
    6881 - 6889

In order to use STMusic, you'll need to configure your client to use a different port(s). Some clients like uTorrent and Azureus use only a single port whereas Bittornado and Bittorrent use a range.

Changing your ports won't create any hassle for you if you use other trackers; in fact it will benefit you as speeds will probably increase. Also note that you can still connect to others regardless of what port they are using.

There really is no special set of ports that work best, but people to tend to go for 40000-60000 range.

Finally, remember to forward the chosen ports in your router and/or firewall, assuming you have a router and firewall that is. See the Why am I 'Not Connectable' and why does it matter? section and links therein for more information on this.

What is a "Hit-and-run" and what can I do to avoid this?

A "hit-and-run" is when you leech a torrent and end it within 45 minutes and/or seeding at a low speed/small amount. You should always try and seed as much as possible as you'll also improve your ratio :)

How do I forward my ports on my router?

The following site portforward.com allows you to diagnose your port's forwarding capability and will tell you how to forward your ports on your router. Please pay attention to this guide before submitting a support ticket.

What is this "pre" or "pre-time" information?

When you're browsing the torrents, you'll often see 'uploaded xx.xx after pre':

    Pre Time

'Pre' is short for 'pre-release'. The 'pre-time' (also known as 'pre') is the time it takes for us to upload the content to our site once it has been released to the public, also known as 'The Scene'.

Basically, the faster it is, the better we are :D

Where do you get these files from?

The files we bring to you come from 'The Scene'. The Scene consist of groups of people that work together to release music, TV, films etc. Scene rippers always tag their releases with the group name at the end (e.g. H3X, JUST, WRE, RNS, for a complete list, check here.)

The reason we use 'Scene' files is that they adhere to strict rules to ensure quality and consistency.

No we can't hook you up, so please don't ask; but here's a further insight into 'The Scene':

The group uploads their release and 'pre' on an ftp site that they are 'affiliated' with. These FTP sites are known as 'topsites', 'topsite rings', 'rings' or more often simply 'sites' - these are the places that the content we get is originally released. After it is released on these rings, it trickles down to newsgroups, torrent sites, fxp boards, and other forms of p2p.

The moment the content is released it is said to have been 'pre'd. Groups usually pre on multiple sites to ensure good propagation. After a release is pre'd, it is raced across the internet to many topsites by users known as 'racers', 'couriers' or 'curries' for short. These racers receive 'credits' depending on how much data they send

For example, they might have raced 150mb of a TV show, so they'll get 150mb worth of credits that they can use to download other stuff from the site. Some sites operate on a 1:3 basis, so for uploading 150mb, you'd get 450mb to spend.

For further reading, Wikipedia has a very nice article all about 'The Scene.'

How can I tell whether my upload qualifies as "scene"?

There are only a couple of checks to verify that something is scene. The first check is simple inspection. Make sure that directory containing the music files has mp3's, along with a .nfo Damn NFO Viewer, .sfv Quick SFV, .m3u Playlist and in some cases a .cue Nero and .jpg JPEG. These files are explained here.

Once you've ensured that the proper files are contained, check the .sfv using a small application called QuickSFV, available here. If it fails for any of the files, the release is corrupt or has been modified. Do not upload it as scene, you may lose your upload privileges as a result! For a closer look at the scene, read this. A full listing of current and past MP3 scene groups is contained in case you are wondering whether a group is scene.

Why are the files named strangely?

The naming of files follows Scene rules; these are rules agreed by some (not all) groups and vary with category. This means that certain 'tags' are put into the naming of releases.

Releases contain certain tags, generally they are named something like this: Artist_Name-Title_Of_Single_Or_Album-Year-GroupName but there are also other tags that appear:

    • CD - Simply telling you the music was ripped from a CD, note that this is pretty standard and not many groups use it.
    • CDS - CD Single; usually 2-3 tracks (can depend on a country's rules)
    • CDM - CD Maxi; used for any releases that contain more tracks/playing time than a country allows. Usually 3+ songs including remixes.
    • VINYL - The songs have been ripped from a vinyl.
    • VLS - VinyL Single; like a CDS but vinyl.
    • DVD/DVDA - Pretty obvious, audio ripped from a DVD
    • PROMO - The CD or Vinyl is promotional (sent to radio stations, magazines etc).
    • WEB - Songs ripped from the web somewhere.
    • EP - Extended Play; this is a release with 4-5 singles on it; too short to be an album.
    • SP/AUS/US/UK/SE/DK etc. - These are country tags which are sometimes used if one country's release is different to the others' (e.g. extra tracks or different remixes).
    • (STORY001) - This usually happens for vinyls where the group will include the label code in the title.
    • BW - Backed With; usually happens with vinyls, it indicates a B-Side e.g. Bone_Thugs_N_Harmony-I_Tried_BW_Bump_in_the_Trunk-(Promo_VLS)-2007-OSC where the main song is 'I Tried' and the B-Side is 'Bump in the Trunk'.
    • RETAIL - Simply means it's a retail version of the release.
    • (Bootleg) - This release is a bootleg (not officially release by a record label, happens often with unlicensed remixes/live recordings).

The following are general tags you will find when downloading:

    • PROPER - This means a previous release was deemed to be bad (see nuked) and this release has sorted the problems. Note that you may also see REAL.PROPER which means someone else screwed up a PROPER!
    • REPACK - This happens when a group made a mistake and re-releases something (they have 'repacked it').
    • iNTERNAL - This means that the release was never meant to be spread other than to the group's affiliates. This could be because it's something that's already been released (therefore it would be a dupe) or something slightly wrong with it which means it wouldn't meet Scene standards.
    • READ_NFO - The group wants you to read the nfo). It may contain important information about the authenticity of the release for example.

How can I improve my download speed? - Top

    General Information

The download speed mostly depends on the seeder-to-leecher ratio (SLR), i.e. how many people are spreading the full file and how many are they spreading it to. New releases shouldn't be much of a problem as we have some big connections here :)

Thinking about the previous point, make sure you seed so that others will have a chance to download at a good speed, like you did.

    Limit your upload speed

Your upload speed affects your download speed in essentially two ways:
    • Bittorrent peers tend to favour those other peers that upload to them. This means that if you and your friend are downloading the same torrent and you're sending data to your friend at high speed, then your friend will try to return the favour by uploading to you. So a higher upload speed will increase your download rate...
    • But this only works up to a certain point: when you receive data from your friend, you send back a small 'ACK' (acknowledgment). This lets your friend know that you've received the data and all is well. However if you're uploading at your maximum speed, there isn't any bandwidth left to send the ACKS and so your friend will stop sending. So this leads to poorer download speeds.

The end result is a trade off between these 2 points.

Your upload speed should be as high as possible without holding up the ACKS. A general rules that people use is to limit your upload speed to 80% of its maximum. This differs for everyone so you need to find out your upload speed (A nice site for this is Speakeasy.net) and test it! (Remember to use max upload speed when you're ready to seed.

Some operating systems (like Windows 9x) do not deal well with a large number of connections, and may even crash. Also some home routers (particularly when running NAT and/or firewall with stateful inspection services) tend to become slow or crash when having to deal with too many connections. There are no fixed values for this, you may try 60 or 100 and experiment with the value. Note that these numbers are additive, if you have two instances of a client running the numbers add up.

Limit the number of simultaneous uploads

Isn't this the same as above? No. Connections limit the number of peers your client is talking to and/or downloading from. Uploads limit the number of peers your client is actually uploading to. The ideal number is typically much lower than the number of connections, and highly dependent on your (physical) connection.

    Just give it some time

As explained above peers favour other peers that upload to them. When you start leeching a new torrent, you have nothing to offer to other peers and they will tend to ignore you. This can make your the initial start slow. Your download speed should increase as you get more and more pieces to share.

Why is my browsing so slow while leeching?

If you're using up your max download or upload speed, anything else that needs to use the internet may become slow. That is why most clients nowadays have the ability to set a download speed limit.

    You can try these:

If you're lost even after reading this FAQ, please post in our forums.
If you can't log into the forums, use http://www.stmusic.org/cookiefix.php
We have a dedicated Support Team and you should be able to get some friendly help, provided you abide by a few guidelines:
    • Please make sure you have read this FAQ thoroughly, it's very annoying sending users back to the FAQ because they haven't looked properly.
    • Before posting in the forums, please read the sticky topics (the ones at the top). Many times new information that still hasn't been incorporated in the FAQ can be found there.
    • Help us in helping you. Do not just say "it doesn't work!" Provide details so that we don't have to guess or waste time asking. What client do you use? What's your OS? What's your network setup? What's the exact error message you get, if any? What are the torrents you are having problems with? The more you tell us, the easier it will be for us, and the more probable your post will get a reply.
    • And needless to say: be polite. Demanding help rarely works, asking for it usually does the trick.

    • You may also try our New Help Desk, or you can reach us in the chat (for details on how to connect, see this forum thread).
